| Hi all, I have been taking morphine for 14 years for bad pain due to brain surgery. I wanted to stop it as it had many side effects including withdrawal symptoms especially at nights. I am on methadone and although it is a drug it has stopped all these horrible feelings. It will now take a long time to get me off methadone. I am so relieved I can be helped and live a morphine free life. Already I feel physically better and am not tired or argumentative. Thanks for being there. | |

| Hi bohemian, My name is Dee, I have been in recovery for seven years. The way that I see it as long as you are doing well on Methadone and you not in any pain, I wouldn't worry about stopping it. It has given you a chance to live a life that is free of not only Morphine but pain as well. There are many people that feel they will be on Methadone for the remainder of their lives and I see nothing wrong with that idea. Thank you for joining the forum. Our moderator is lilgirllost, she is a wonderful lady that is knowledgeable about Methadone. I am sure that she will be along to talk to you soon. In the meantime, feel free to read the posts of the other members and make yourself at home. If you ahve any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Yours in Recovery, Dee | |

| Hello. It is RuthAnn again and I am so glad to see that you felt comfortable enough to post your story on the forum after all. Like I said in the email I sent you, we want the forum to be a place where we can all come together and help each other out so do not hesitate to post any questions you have or if you just want to talk. I agree with Dee, if the methadone helps you, I wouldn't concerned yourself at all right now with "getting off", you have enough things going on without having to worry about how long you should be on it or when/if you should get off it. You may never be able to and there is nothing wrong with that. Do you go to a pain doctor that prescribes the methadone for you or do you go to a methadone clinic? Are you having much trouble with the doctors and/or clinic where you are? You didn't say when you started methadone treatment, so I am assuming it is recent. I know you are taking it for pain and to get off the morphine, but it is still so important for you to have a good support system right now. How does your family feel about your methadone treatment? You take care now and know that our thoughts are with you and again, if you need anything, that is what we are here for! RuthAnn | |
