We have a new member to the forum that I want to take a minute to welcome. They go by the user name MYA 788.

My name is RuthAnn and I am a moderator for the group. I have also been a MMT pt for over 9 yrs. I want to welcome you to our little group here and let you know that we look forward to hearing from you and getting to know you!

If you need anything, please don't hesitate to let us know. If you have a question, concern or a problem you can either post to the group and let others share their input (we have a great group of people here!) or if you wish to speak to someone privately, you can private message me. Either way, we want you to know we are here for you!

If you feel up to it, I hope you will share your story with us about how methadone has helped you. The only way we can help each other is to reach out to each other and band together so please don't hesitate to share with us.

hi my name is mya i am from the wheeling, wv clinic. i've been a member for 2 years almost to the day. i am almost done with my treatment and was wanting to know if there where any sucess stories out there. i had a few problems with past counselors, but all in all i think the treatment was good and people that work there are great. i have to give it to the nurses and counselors for putting up with people that really didnt want to be there, or actually try to get better. i feel that the program really helped me without it i would not be where i am today. i start school in two weeks to become a nurse and i couldnt have done it by myself, the methadone helped greatly,but without my wifes support i wouldnt have made it you have to have the right frame of mind and alot of support. thanks to everyone who helped me!!

Thanks so much for sharing with us! You have a something to be so proud of and it sounds like you had a great clinic to support you as well as your wife.

I was wondering (if you don't mind sharing this info) how high of a dose did you end up being on? How long did you maintain on that dose? What dose are you at now? When you started tapering off methadone, was there a certain dose that you had a hard time with and/or kinda of stalled at any point?

I have to tell you, I PERSONALLY have not met or talked to anyone that has finished MMT treatment. Everyone I know is still in treatment with no immediate plans to taper off so I am really curious about your experience.

I have been on MMT for 9 yrs. I don't plan to be on it my whole life, I would eventually like to be able to live without it at all, BUT I also do not have a problem with the possibility that I may stay on it for the rest of my life (other than the expense!).

I also admire that you are going to nursing school. I always wanted to do that, but because I was addicted to opiate pain killers and as we all know, medical professionals have easy access to narcotics so I had pretty much given up on ever getting a nursing license. I don't know that I could trust myself. I think you have so much to be proud of and again, thanks for sharing with us.
