PostSubject: A chance to share my experience, strength and hope   Mon Mar 22, 2010 4:17 pm

I had the opportunity to speak at a meeting last week, a recovery meeting. Once a month we have a potluck, a speaker and honor peoples time in sobriety. It was suggested that I be the speaker and I decided to do it. I spoke for 45 minutes and I am so glad I did it. It was a very honorable experience and felt very liberating and like I was cleansed. It humbled me to receive such support from so many people, there were about 60 people in attendance. I would highly recommend such an experience to anyone who has the chance. I know it will be a great tool in my tool box for sobriety. I hope to do more speaking in the future.

GOOD FOR YOU!

You are absolutely right, it can be a very liberating and clensing experience. It also puts a real face to addiction and allows others to see that everyone can fall prey to addiction. So often ppl imagine the opiate addict to be some crazed lunatic running around with needles hanging out of their arms and pockets breaking into every house they come to and trying to get their kids hooked as well. Now a days w/pain pill addictions, the addict can be your neighbor, your friend, your sibling, your parent, your pastor, your doctor, your police officer ANYONE. Thanks for being so brave and speaking out!

I had the opportunity to speak and out share my experience on several occassions and I have also found that it helps me strive to stay sober as well. Sharing with those people kind of gave me a way to be accountable to someone. I never knew if I would see them again somewhere and I sure didn't want to be a failure if I did.

It is a win win situation all the way around so if you have a chance to speak out and share your story, I would recommend it to anyone.
