Questions about Take-homes Empty
PostSubject: Questions about Take-homes   Questions about Take-homes EmptyTue Aug 24, 2010 10:32 pm

Well I've had clean mouth swabs since I got to the clinic 10 months ago. I have 5 take-home and my counselor said I would get another in a couple weeks. Anyways, I have a question. I have been getting my take-home one by one every couple months.

I was wondering when I get to the year mark and continue to get clean, if they can give me more than just one take-out day at a time, or can they give me 2 or three days at once? I am just trying to calculate how long until I only have to check in 2 times a month. (gosh, that will be nice! Questions about Take-homes Icon_razz ) Some of you all have been on methadone longer than a year...Just wondering how your take-homes went after the year mark.

Questions about Take-homes Empty
PostSubject: Re: Questions about Take-homes   Questions about Take-homes EmptyTue Aug 24, 2010 11:32 pm

Congrats on your 10 month clean mark! I wasn't quite sure how your take out schedule is, you said you get 5 but you get them one after the other........are you saying you get 5 in a month?

One thing to keep in mind is that each state and then each clinic can have different rules as to when and how many TO's they give you.

MY experience was when I first started I went into the clinic every single day except sunday (the clinic was closed on Sunday) for a dose I took in front of the nurse. On sat, they made me take my sat dose in front of them and gave me my sunday dose as a TO.

After the first 90 days I was allowed to have the regular sunday take home plus two other take homes a week. After my second 90 days (which would have been my 6 month period) I was allowed the regular sunday plus 3 others so essentially I was going every other day and getting one take home for the inbetween days. After my third 90 days which would have been 9 months I was allowed Sunday, plus 4 others. After my 9 month period was over, I was allowed a total of 7 takeouts (sunday plus the 6 other so I came in once a week) After that first year I got 2 weeks worth of takeouts and would come every other week. After the 2nd year I was allowed 27 takeouts but I stayed at the every other week takeout level because that is what I felt cofortable at. It wasn't until I had been on for about 5 or 6 yrs and we moved to another state that I went ahead and went up to 27 takeouts and that was only because the drive was now 3 hrs one way, otherwise I probably would have stayed at the every two week level.

I ended up transferring to a closer clinic (now only an hour and 20 minutes away) but I kept my 27 takeouts. We live in Louisiana and in Louisiana they only allow you 2 weeks worth of takeouts EVER. You can never have more than that (that is where I say even though Fed Regs say the clinic can allow you a months worth, they are not required to and can make their own state and/or clinic rules) So I transferred to another clinic in Texas instead of going ahead and transferring to the one in Louisiana (the original clinic I was in was in Tx as well) so I could keep my 27 takeouts. It is only 20 minutes longer than the drive to the clinic in LA so I figure it is worth it just to keep the 27 takeouts.

Again though, that was my experience with takeouts. Every clinic is different and may have different rules. some clinics are open 7 days a week so there is no Sunday takeout in addition to the regular takeout schedule. Fed Regs say anyone is allowed the one takeout on the day the clinic is closed so even a new pt gets one takeout a week if the clinic is closed on sundays, but again, the ones that are open on Sundays don't have this automatic takeout for everyone.

Questions about Take-homes Empty
PostSubject: Re: Questions about Take-homes   Questions about Take-homes EmptyWed Aug 25, 2010 9:27 am

I get one day to take home every 90 days or so then I have to wait another 90 days to get another day and so on. I guess every clinic is different. I will ask my counselor when I get back there on Monday. If it is possible to get more than just one take out every 90 days or will I just have to stick it out. So Lilgirllost you got more than one at a time the first 90 days you started. So did you say when you hit the year mark you automatically got 2 weeks?

Yeah, I guess it just depends on your counselor and the state you live in. My counselor is really new. I will ask him. Thanks for telling me how your clinic works. You are lucky you get almost a whole months worth at a time! It is kinda hard for me to explain what I am talking about. Sorry if it is unclear what I am asking. Have a great Wednesday!

Questions about Take-homes Empty
PostSubject: Re: Questions about Take-homes   Questions about Take-homes EmptyWed Aug 25, 2010 3:09 pm

It ultimately isn't the counselor that makes the rules, the can recommend you for take outs and such, but the clinic and the state determine how fast you can get your takeouts as long as they stay within the federal regulations. The counselor only makes recommendations based on how well you are doing and such.

The only reason I got a single takeout in my first 90 days was because the clinic I went to was closed on Sunday's so they have to give you one for that day. IF they are open on Sunday's then you wouldn't be able to get one in the first 90 days, you would have to wait till you completed your first 90 days.

Yes, after my first year was over I was able to go to the clinic once every two weeks, but again, that just means that my clinic pretty much followed the fed regs on takeout schedule exactly and didn't change anything.

Here is a link where you can check out the fed Regs and see what they takeout schedule is according to them BUT I would check with you clinic and ask them for a copy of the rules they go by as well. Go to page 34 is where you will find the info on the take out schedule

I talked to my counselor today. He said in October, when I hit my year mark I will get 6 take-outs. I hope that I am getting the correct amount, at the right time. I will look it up. Thank you! Questions about Take-homes Icon_albino

PostSubject: Re: Questions about Take-homes   Questions about Take-homes EmptyWed Aug 25, 2010 8:50 pm

hi ,
I am on phase 6, ive been on it for 3 years I get 6 take homes. In our clinic any more than that would have to be a hardship,
like medical or work some thing that keeps you from coming in often. It took me a year and clean UAS to get my 6 take homes.
I have to see my counsler 3 times a month for medical, medicare. So I dont mind. You should get 6 after a year and as long as youve been giving clean UAS, but than every state is diffrent, Im in California.
Good luck..
PEACE....Debbie

WOW! only 6 takeouts after 3 yrs?? After my first full year I was able to have 2 weeks worth of takeouts so I guess I am VERY lucky to have 27 takeouts, it sounds like most states don't allow it at all. I go to a clinic in Tx.

Questions about Take-homes Empty
PostSubject: Re: Questions about Take-homes   Questions about Take-homes EmptySat Aug 28, 2010 11:07 am

I talked to one of the nurses at my clinic. She said that the max you can get at a year are 6 take-homes. She also said that it is very rare that the client goes to two weeks worth, ever. So, I guess I better get used to only one weeks worth for a while. Questions about Take-homes Icon_rolleyes Bummer! I am never going to be able to have a months worth. But like everyone said, every clinic is different. Oh well, at least I only live a couple miles away...for now.
Everyone have a great day because I am not going to let that bring me down.

Questions about Take-homes Empty
PostSubject: Re: Questions about Take-homes   Questions about Take-homes EmptySat Aug 28, 2010 12:55 pm

Did they say if that was just their clinic rules or the rules for the whole state of Minnesota?

And nahhh....definately don't let something like that bring you down. There is nothing you can do about it and being upset and messing up your day will not hurt them, it will only make you and those around you miserable. BUT just because you may never get more than that for takeouts, you are still doing an AWESOME job and if you were at another clinic or a different state that offered more takeouts than that, you would be elegible there. SO keep that in mind as well. You are doing an awesome job and have come so far and you should be proud of your progress.

Thank you! I am working very hard to be clean. Now it is more of a lifestyle-change, it used to be pill obsession. The cravings are getting less and less as time goes by. I am proud! : )

It is the clinics rules as far as I know because there is a couple places in the Twin Cities that you can get a months worth in a very short time. The cities is a very long way from me. (2 hrs)
