How long before withdrawals set in Empty
PostSubject: How long before withdrawals set in   How long before withdrawals set in EmptyThu Nov 25, 2010 2:44 pm

I've went 6 days now without taking my dose to see how long it will take before withdrawals start. I want to get off this stuff and am trying to figure out the best way to do it so I don't go through agony like I've heard tell. This isn't the way to do it but I was thinking about dosing then a day off, dose then 2 days off. Maybe something like that but maybe that doesn't work. I just don't want to go through hell. I'm only on 45 mg a day. Most the people I know are over 200mg a day. I warned them!! jocolor

Everyone is different when they are detoxing. I have heard that lowering your dose week by week or as you feel comfortable doing so is the easiest way to get off of it and stay clean. I am no doctor though. I would talk to your counselor or clinic doctor and let them know that you want to get medically detoxed. Good luck with detoxing and hopefully that you can do it with minimal pain, associated with withdraws. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

You need to go along with the plan that your doc and/or clinic has in mind for you. When you let them know you are ready to taper, then they can help you do it so that you can suffer minimal withdrawals. If done properly, you should not have that terrible of a time. Is it going to be easy? No, but again, if done properly, you shouldn't suffer too much. Again, this is why you should be doing this in conjunction with what your doc and/or clinic says because if you are having a particularly hard time there are things they can try and things they can do to help make it easier for you.

The plan you have in mind is going to DEFINATELY cause you discomfort and pain so I don't recommend it at all.

Each person is different but they usually decrease your dose 5-10mg every week - two weeks. This is something that needs to be done properly and under the care of a medical professional to minimize discomfort and to ensure a successful taper.

ALSO, when you finally do get down to 5mg or even off all together, please don't get discouraged if you find you need to stay at the 5mg for a few weeks before stepping off totally or if you get down to zero, you may need to go back to the 5mg for a bit. Just don't get discouraged and don't beat yourself up about it because the ultimate goal IS NOT to GET OFF methadone, it is to get off methadone and be able to stay drug free. People can GET OFF methadone fairly easy compared to being able to stay CLEAN once you are off.

AGAIN, Please do this under a medical professionals care and do it properly. We are here if you need anything.

How long before withdrawals set in Empty

Hi there,
Both of these wonderful ladies have given you some great solid advice. Listen to what they are saying, the key isn't to just "get off" Methadone. But to do it at a pace where YOU are comfortable and are able to stay in recovery.
If you get to a point that you feel like your tapering too fast, slow down. You will get there and it will take some time. If you find that you need to come here to talk or vent, we will be here for you.
I wish you the best of luck on your journey. Please let us know how you are doing whenever you feel up to it.
Best Wishes,
Dee

Hi I am also on a Low dose, I'm on 55Mg's, I was on 145 Mg's and I came down, 5 Mg's a week and sometimes I wait 2 week's. But now I'm taking a break, and I am at 55 Mg's and I feel so proud of myself.
My husband is totally off 149 day's today. He is doing so good. I wish I was off this too, But I am being careful, I'm not in a race.
I am tired of going everyday to the Clinic. But I am so grateful it isn't too far from where I live.
You really went 6 day's without taking any of your 45 mg dose?
How did you feel in thoughts 6 day's? I mean if you can do that, you can come down probably 2 Mg's a week, and before you know it you will be off.

But the reason people come down slow also, is because when you totally stop doing let's say you jump off at 2 Mg's, your body is going to say where is my methadone?
But if you do come down 2 Mg's let just say, I know it would be alot better, than the plan you are thinking about. I mean, unless you feel you can do that. But how much would you detox? And how often?

My plan is to come down 2 Mg's a week, until I jump from 2 Mg's or 5 Mg's. I think 2 might be better for me. Anyway I would like you to keep in touch, let me know how you are doing.

P.S.
I was Told Tonic water is good if you get leg cramp's because it has quinine in it, and that I guess helps, also I want to get more Coral Calcium. and also take Vitamin B6 and B12. I wish You all the best of health, it's a good feeling knowing we are not alone in this situation, having Support, is awesome, oh I am afraid of the emotional part but I am walking in faith. Have a great day keep positive,
Sincerely Sam.
