| Another one of those articles and instances that make me so angry! This man obviously is abusing other substances along with the methadone or else he is a recreational user of methadone who somehow got into a clinic. We all know that a stable dose of methadone does not impair you ability to drive! It is ppl like this guy who are making it so much worse for the rest of us and it makes me so angry!
Is Drugged Driving Underreported?
Written by Jennifer Osborn Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at 3:03 pm
ELLSWORTH — After a Trenton man driving home from a Bangor methadone clinic was arrested in Dedham Jan. 4 on a charge of operating under the influence of an intoxicant —drugs, not alcohol, local police say they suspect drugged driving is underreported.
One Bangor methadone clinic says such instances are rare because the clinics are so highly regulated.
Also, methadone doesn’t “kick in” for three to four hours after ingestion.
Methadone has two functions: to help people with opiate addictions and as a pain reliever.
Bangor is home to three methadone clinics.
One of those clinics, Discovery House, which has locations across the nation, says incidents such as the one in Dedham are rare.
Rob Kornacki, development director of Discovery House, says the clinics are “extremely heavily regulated.”
“It’s actually extremely rare that somebody would leave a facility under the influence,” Kornacki said.
Ellsworth Police Chief John DeLeo said his department has taken calls for years about erratic drivers on Route 1A who turn out to be motorists on their way home from visiting a methadone clinic.

| Thats so crazy, But it is true like when people shoot up heroin then go drive thats pretty stupid, but methadone, if a person is on a regulated dose daily, they should not be impaired at all, cause methadone doesnt do that. | |

| I'm sorry to hear about your mom, that is a big adjustment to have to get used to. I hope she is doing ok. You also be sure and take care of yourself too. I know your mom is the one going through the hardest part, but don't get overwhelmed trying to take care of everything and neglect yourself.
Hang in there and know my thoughts and prayers are with you all. | |
