My name is Pam and I am one of your moderators here on the forum. I want to encourage all of you....new members and established members to please post about your story. Just a little bit about myself. I am fairly new to all of this. I have been dosing for about 2 months. I feel better than I have felt in a long time. Even though I feel this good, I don't tell anyone why. I contribute feeling this good to getting on methadone. I feel that I can not tell too many people as I would be looked down on and they will never understand, How can something that has turned my life around be looked at as not a good thing? I wish that methadone treatment was more accepted. Any advice on how you have gotten others to understand? Even though there is so much evidence as to the effectiveness of methadone treatment, there is so much negative attention it's as though no one remembers how many lives this treatment has saved. How can we change this?

I know EXACTLY where you are coming from. I have the exact same problem. The methadone makes me feel so much better but I don't like to tell many people that I am no it because a lot of people just look down on you like you are still an addict and just changed your drug of choice.

Unfortunately, the only way we are going to get the word out is by places like this. Keeping people educated and aware of their rights is a big part of it. Maybe some day we will get lucky and it will be more widely accepted but with the deaths that are happening and the fact that it is still a dangerous drug, there is always going to be controversy. It isn't fair and it will never be fair. What we need to do is give it the best positive attention that we can on places like these forums and by writing our congressmen.
