Lewiston City Council says "yes" to methadone clinic

Lewiston City Councilors vote in favor of letting a medical provider open a methadone treatment clinic in that city.

In a close vote Monday night, councilors voted 4 to 3 in favor of approving a license for Merrimack River Medical Services to open a clinic at 18 Mollison way.

The provider still needs to meet with surrounding businesses and obtain federal licenses. No opening day has been set.

The frist time that I heard about a clinic being opened in Lewiston was about 5 months ago, I didnt think it would pass cause there are alot of people that think if they open a methadone clinic there will be alot of bad people around the clinic doing nothing. The reason why people think methadone clinics are bad is cause they dont understand what its all about. So I am glad that this state has realized that this is a huge problem and they are trying to do something about it.

Up until a year ago I have lived in Lewiston pretty much my whole life, I moved to Greene which is about 15 mins from Lewiston. Everyday I drive to CAP which is the clinic I go to and it takes me hour and 30 mins in all. I really hope I will be able to join the new clinic so I dont have to drive so much. They are making the clinic I think in the same building as spare time which is a bowling alley, its so close to me and its a good part of town.

I just wonder if I am able to go to the Lewiston clinic instead of the one im going to now what will be different but I cant get my hopes up because they are only allowing 500 people to join the clinic. All in all I really like how some people understand that certain people have serious needs that they need to take care of and there willing to help them.
