| I have been doing some research on methadone for a few months now. The reasoning behind it, besides the fact I am on Methadone and want to know all there is to know about it now I am going to be on it for quite some time. I also started noticing some issues. Like my hair for instance, which has always been very, very thick. Has been falling out more and more every time I comb it out after and before showering. Now being extremely thin as well as there being a small spot that is bald on the front of my head. Right above my hair line in the front. Of all places.. I have read in some other Methadone sites that there were others who have been losing their hair as well. Is this because of the Methadone and if so, is there anything that can be done for it? (I'm hoping this is a myth!)Thank you for your time and advice. Have a wonderful day. | |

| Hi babykin, I started to lose hair by the handfuls not long after starting Methadone. But I later found out it had nothing to do with methadone at all. For me it was because I am hyperthyroid. I had no idea until I had a whole series of blood work done by my primary care provider. Over time out bodies change. I saw in an earlier post that you have already been tested. How long ago was that? Maybe someone else have some experience of advice to offer on the subject. RuthAnn should be along soon and perhaps she can tell you something as well. Dee | |

| Dee, To answer your question as to how long ago it was that I was tested for hyperthyroid, well it was a little over ten years ago. Can the results change in time? I'm sorry, I'm not very educated on the thyroid glands. I appreciate your help and advice on these matters. Thank you and have a wonderful day. | |

| Hi babykin I'm sorry I wasn't here earlier to respond to your question, I had a few appointments today and am just now getting here. Our bodies change all of the time. I used to get checked for different things years ago and never had a problem with my Thyroid. I did some checking for you to see if I could find anything. I read that if you have had thyroid problems in the past the Thyroid Gland should be checked every 6 months. For those who have had Thyroid Cancer they should have it checked every 4 months.
And for people who have had normal levels it should be checked once a year along with a complete blood workup. I'm not saying it is your Thyroid that is causing the problem. But it is a good idea to get yourself checked out if you haven't for awhile. Everyone should have at least a yearly check up.
I hope you are doing well otherwise. I wanted to welcome you to the forum, it is great to have you here and posting. Have a good night, Dee | |

| Thanks so much Dee! Thank you so much for all of your help! I will certainly talk to my Dr about this. I have quite a lot to talk with her about this next visit! I am learning so much here and am enjoying every minute of it! Its been a very long time since I have felt comfortable or even acknowledged for myself and not my problems or addictions. Thank you so much for the welcome and comfort of acceptance! Have a great day, hun! | |

| You welcome babykin, People always preach to treat others the way you would want to be treated. But when it comes to people who are taking Methadone it seems that everyone has forgotten that little Golden Rule. How nice it would be if others would do as they say and not judge. WE are all people no better or worse than anyone else. We have heart, feelings and can love. All we need is a little acceptance. Have a great day yourself and please keep posting. Dee
