HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY LABOR DAY WEEKEND! Labord11HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY LABOR DAY WEEKEND! Labor_10

This weekend is Labor Day weekend. When we were younger it was a time for us to get together with friends and family for one last HURRAH before the dreaded school year started again. We knew that it was the end of our freedom and carefree summer and it would be our last big all out party time and it would be a good while before the next break began.

Now, school starts waaay earlier than it use to but it still is a time for us to get together with family and/or friends to have our one last big summer bash. I just wanted to remind you guys that it also can be a time of stress, cravings and set backs with our addiction.

Those same family and friends that we are getting together with are the same ones that we may have unresolved issues with and/or some of the people who know the best what buttons to push to get you going. Sometimes it's because these are the ones who were closests to us and thus ended up hurt the worst during our active phase of addiction and there are issues there because of that.

Just know that this can be a stressful time and the cravings and desires to use can sneak upon us when we least expected them. (we all should know that REALLY well by now lol!)

If you find yourself in this situation, as corny as it sounds, "this too will pass". I know, I know, I saw you roll your eyes at me just now! But it is so true. If you can find something else to occupy your thoughts for 5 minutes, you will find that the worst of it will be over by then. Addiction is the beast that sneaks upon us and bites us in the behind if we aren't careful so you have to be aware! First, you need to recognize this is what is going on and acknowledge it. Call it out for what it is! There is no shame in this and if there is someone you can trust and talk to and let know that you are having a hard time, then do it. If you have someone you can call and talk to them and get you through that rough patch, do it. Find something, anything that will get your mind off of it for 5 minutes.

If you do end up messing up and using, DO NOT beat yourself up about it. Please don't let this screw up mess up all the hard work you have been doing up to this point. You acknowledge it, (yes, again I am big on this acknowledge thing! ) admit the mistake, let it go and get back on the right track again.

Back to the hang up on acknowledging things.......I really think that when we try to fool ourselves and everyone else that something is not there, we are doing more harm than good. It's like when you stop letting the BS'er at work get away with their BS anymore. All this time, everyone kinda just didn't say anything and would walk around like this person wasn't full of bull when everyone KNEW they were. They just kept on acting on and spreading their bull around because no one was trying to put a stop to it and was letting them get away with it. When someone finally says HEY! I know you are full of BULL, I am calling it what it is and you can't do that anymore! They are less likely to pull their crap as they were before.

So yes, I know it's a bad comparision and I am still probably not explaining what I want to say right, but I think half the battle is admitting and acknowleding there is a problem. You admit it, call it what it is and then you know what you are dealing with and can remedy the problem.

SO, back on topic here (sorry bout that) if you find yourself in that position where you have screwed up and used this weekend, don't give up and don't be so hard on yourself.

Also know that we are here for you if you need us as well. The forum is a great place to get support and find an ear to talk to. And what makes it even better is the other ppl here know what you are going through and it's kinda easier to talk to someone when you can't see them and/or don't know them.

So you guys I promise I am going to quit now, but have a good long weekend and be safe and stay clean.
