question about switching from done to subs Empty
PostSubject: question about switching from done to subs   question about switching from done to subs EmptyWed Feb 08, 2012 7:56 am

Hi,
I was recently discharged from my methadone clinic after being on for 2 years for missing too many group counseling sessions. i was at 120mg and am now down to 15mg. i only have 3 days left of dosing and have got my hands on some suboxone. i have read that it is safe to switch to subs under 30mg of methadone but my question is, is it ok to take the suboxone and still go to the clinic for the remaining 3 days or do i need to take one or the other. im already sick enough as it is nevermind having to deal with precipitated withdrawal on top of it from the bupe in the suboxone. any help woild be much appreciated.

If you are asking if it is safe to take the Suboxone while you are taking Methadone the answer would be no.
When you switch over from Methadone to Suboxone it is recommended to taper down to 30mg or lower of Methadone. The lower the better always. But you will have to stop your Methadone before taking Suboxone.
In the beginning of Suboxone it was said to stop all opiates for at least 24 hours before starting Subs. With Methadone though since it is such a long acting medication I would recommend at least 72 hours. The longer you can go without anything before induction the better it would be for you to avoid precipitated withdrawal.
You will have to be in moderate withdrawal.
When you start Suboxone start out with a low dose. You should start out with a dose of 1- 2mg. And wait for about an hour to see how you do.

If we can be of any help, please post.
Let us know how you are doing. I realize that you first posted on Wednesday so you may have already started taking Suboxone. How are you doing?
We do have a Suboxone forum that you can check out. It may have some answers to some of your questions about Suboxone. The link to the forum is:
http://suboxone.activebb.net/forum
I manage that forum so will be there if you need anything.
Good luck,
Dee
