Hi everyone I am new to this forum didn't know it exist till I went searching up myths about methadone and I click on here and I am glad I did Very Happy however I need some help with my research paper I am doing it on methadone the history, myths, statistics, the effects meth has on the brain and body.....any websites you all may know of? I been on meth for 7 years and I am now in the process since October 2012 of starting a blind detox. So if anyone can help I would appreciate it. My reason of choosing this topic is because people that don't know anything a out meth seem to think they know everything about meth and I want people too understand that meth can and does help and save lives and people live normal lives drinking meth just like the average person that doesn't drink or drug.

Hello Quannie and welcome to the forum,
As you know there are many myths concerning Methadone. One thing I would like to mention without offending is that it would probably be better if instead of calling it "meth" you would call it methadone. When you say meth it can lead people to think you are talking about methamphetamine.
I had an experience with my sister in law a few months back. I was talking to her about methadone and she gave me a really confused look. She asked me how I could defend a "drug like that" she wasn't talking about methadone though, she was talking about meth. She had the two confused.

There are some great resources for you to look at:

The SAMHSA website has a list of free publications that you can order. They are all absolutely free along with free shipping. You can choose to either download the publications to your computer or received hard copies in the mail.
The link for the publications at the SAMHSA website would be: http://store.samhsa.gov/home
There is a search bar located at the top right side of the page so that you can type in whatever subject you might be looking for.

NIDA also has a helpful website: http://international.drugabuse.gov/educational-opportunities/certificate-programs/methadone-research-web-guide

The center of substance abuse research: http://www.cesar.umd.edu/cesar/drugs/methadone.asp

AT Forum: http://www.atforum.com/

Some of our other members may have some other sites they would like to share with you as well. Good luck on your paper and it is good to have you with us.

I'm glad you pointed out that what we say/language matters, Dee! :-) I was just about to make that same point about referring to our medicine as "meth" which too often brings up illusions of methamphetamine....

The sources and website pointed out above are some great points of departure. There is one publication that was written by William White & Lisa Mojer-Torres called "Recovery Oriented Methadone Maintenance" which has a TON of awesome info all in one place from history to the medication to myths to creating a future without stigma, etc. It's a resource I would HIGHLY recommend for anyone doing a research paper on methadone and/or MMT. I have a copy of the publication in a .pdf file, and I would be happy to email it if you can't find a copy of it online. It's a great resource! :-)

Welcome to the forum Quannie; I'm glad you found us!
