DEALING WITH PAIN WHILE IN MMT

I need help asap. I have been on a MMT for one year. I was born with a birth defect that has caused me to have close to 30 surgeries on my legs.My last surgery was 5 years ago. Since being on methadone I have not had pain that I couldnt deal with until now. I am in need of a orthopedic docter in or around Atlanta Georgia who will understand how to treat me sinceI do take methadone and will not take any other opiate NEVER. The pain is in my right hip and it feels almost like nerve pain. It came out of no where last Sat. I have a huge pain tolerence but this is getting to be way to much. Please anyone if you know of a doctor and you are for sure he or she will treat me with respect let me know!!!!!Thank you so much

Thank you so much. I just really dont know where to go and I am not cold calling ortho dr.s in my area. I couldnt handle that many people rejecting me over and over. The pain is so bad. I cant believe it could hurt this bad when I didnt fall or something to hurt myself. The methadone isnt doing anything for the pain so I a, guessing it is nerve pain. I do understand not wanting to cold call.
I have to find a new primary care provider in my area. There aren't many who take new patients with the insurance that I have (medicaid) and the ones that do, first thing they say when I call is.
WE don't prescribe narcotics. I am not calling for narcotics, have not mentioned anything about addiction and still the response is the same.
Why people judge without even meeting who they are talking to is beyond me. If you don't like the work you do or the people you meet, get a new line of work.

It gets old hearing the same thing over and over again.

Dee, Where did you send that info? I did not get it. I spoke with my counsler today and she is trying to find someone also so we shall see. She wanted me to go up on my dose but I just dont see how 5mgs will help much so I said no? I have never had to find a dr like this since I have been in MMT but from reading all the stories I am not happy about it at all. It is so sad we have to go through this. I hope to see the day when we are not judge badly by a medication that saved our lives.

Hey Dee sorry it has been so long for a reply. I wish I had good news. I am still i the most horrible pain EVER!!! And to top i off my Dr found a mass inmy lower colon which is thought to be what is causeing the pain in my hip its really my syatic nerve that is hurting. Wel I have a colnoscopy last week. Dr seem like a quack dr.My reg dr is send to a different gi specialist this wednesday for a second opinion. Dee I am only 35 years old and I NEVER saw all this coming. On top of all the we have been under alot of other stress dur to my hubby being layed off. I he you pray because I need as many prayers as I can get. Another question. When I saw the gi dr I tried to tell him about bing in MMT do you know he raised is voice and talked right over me and never heard me say anything about methadone. He only said "DO u take asprin" I looked at my hubby smiled ear to ear and said why No I dont!!!! I went ahead and had the colonoscopy (through twilight sleep) my question us when I go to this new Dr I know he is going to do another test(colonosopy) Do I really need to tell him about MMT. I know I HAVE to with a full blown surgery but not if its twilight sleep. I hope SOMEONE will read this and give me some knowledge about this.Also I am so tired from not sleeping. My nerves are so bad I shake all day. Does any know of something I can take for my nerves. I am already on 20mgs of Lexapro a day but I need something to calm me down. Not permant just to make it through all this and not have a nervous breakdown or massive heart attack. I hope to hear from some one soon. I REALLY need some advice. Love to you all

I will most certainly keep you in my prayers for a fast recovery. Does your regular doctor know that you are taking Methadone? I can imagine the stress you are under with everything that you have going on these days.
I'm sure the doctor raised his voice because he didn't want to hear about MMT and that is pure wrong. That isn't going to make it go away. You are the patient and he should have kept quiet long enough to hear you out.
I can rant about this type of treatment all day but that is not going to make you feel any better or tell you anything that you don't already know.
Talk to your regular doctor about your nerves and see if there is something he can give you that short term.
