Me and 2 friends that are on Methadone have noticed that since starting the clinic, that we have had problems with memory. I cannot remember anything anymore. I know that memory problems come with age but I am 42. My friend that rides to the clinic with me is just 30. She used to be a walking phone book and never forgot anything. We were just wondering if anyone else has noticed this? Has anyone noticed Memory problems with Methadone? Icon_question

Has anyone noticed Memory problems with Methadone? Daisy_11

Hi Regina,
I don't think the use of Methadone is the sole source of memory loss. Opiate use of any kind over long periods can cause short term memory loss. I have read up on the subject some as I too experience memory loss. I thought it was caused by my taking Methadone but then when I switched over to Suboxone it didn't get any better, so that in itself told me it wasn't the Methadone or Suboxone alone.
Stress can also play a big factor in memory loss.
If you get to the point to where the memory loss cause you to worry a lot, I would recommend that you talk to your doctor about it. Maybe they can recommend some exercises that are geared towards the retention of memory.
It also helps to make s list of things that you need to do on a daily basis. In today's world everything needs to be done yesterday. Take some time for yourself.
Enjoy your day,
Dee

My memory has gotten better since I started methadone. I think it's because I don't use any more illegal substances. Also, I have started taking Ginkgo Biloba. It strengthens your mental alertness and memory. It also helps with circulation and oxygen flow to the brain. Overall, my memory is better.
