Hi, my name is Christian and I have been using pain medication for 6 years. About 2 months ago I started going to the Methadone clinic and I came across this website and I figured it would be a good idea to have a place where I can be able to relate with people that are dealing with the same problems as myself. Also I dont have anyone I can talk to with things like this. Well I look forward to getting to know everyone.

Hi Christian. That is exactly what we hoped to accomplish with this forum. To provide a place where other MMT pts can come together to share our situation and story with. So many of us do feel like we have no one we can talk to who really understands what is going on. You may have family mbrs or loved ones who support MMT, but they can't really understand what it is like.

SO! Having said that, we are so glad you have found us and hope you will make yourself at home and be an active member of the forum.

I notice on your profile info you put under humor that you are working on getting your humor back..........this statement is SO TRUE I think for all of us in the early stages of recovery. For so long we haven't REALLY laughed or been happy in so long it's almost like you don't even know what it feels like any more! In time it will come back to you, I promise and the first time you realize that you are "feeling" again and able to find pleasure in things, it's like a new beginning. I know, I know.......I sound like a cheesy addiction recovery commercial, but it is so true.

But also keep in mind that not only do we start feeling the "good" feelings again, we also start feeling the painful feelings and emotion again as well. This is where the hard part comes in. For so long we were able to medicate ourselves to numb those painful feelings or to keep from feeling them at all and now we have to find ways to deal with them. It isn't easy and you may feel like giving up or even slip up, but DO NOT let one or two slip ups throw you off permenately. I bet there isn't one of us out there, if we were really honest with ourselves that can say they have never had a slip up or two, or three since we have been on MMT. But just don't give up! That is what we are here for, during those times when we feel ashamed or can't admit our screw ups to others (family, loved ones, clinic staff etc) so please know that you can count on us. This is a great group of people and I know you will fit in perfectly.

Oh, by the way, my name is RuthAnn (username lilgirllost) and I have been on MMT for over 11 yrs now. I moderate for the forum and work with Medical Assisted Treatment of America Inc reaching out to other pts and the public to help get accurate info about there about ORT (opiate replacement therapy) as a valid treatment for opiate addiction.

So if you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to email me or you can private message me through the private message feature in the forum.

I hope to see you around the forum! Take care.
